) invited me for a walkathon of street photography from busy streets of quiapo, to the isolated areas of sta cruz, the silent walls of intramuros, accomodating aura of luneta, the sleepy benches and rocks of baywalk and finally to our end point at picc.
my mission of that day was to let the world see the life of the street children around manila. just to remind everyone, i didn't have the pleasure of taking these pics. these are an eye-opener for me and just want to share it with you to realize that life has its ups and downs. i was having a mixed emotions thru this...happy to see some of them with genuine smiles. sad when you can see through those eyes behind it... thanks for viewing.
note: some of the images are graphic and contain photographs with nudity. i captured the photos to be photojournalistic as possible and i do not promote child pornography here. to be safe, i'm patching black areas to the vital parts. thanks.
in a day's bath...
nothing more to eat...
nowhere to go...
saving it for a day's worth...
still in dreamworld...
Powerful photography! Sad indeed! Let's hope there is still a future for those children.
What you show us here is something that I still don't understand. On one side you got the Mall of Asia and on the other hand you got those street children. It seems many Filipino's just don't want to see them. I have a similar series in the pipeline. I think people need to be confronted with this reality. Only then can things change.
What kind of lens did you use here? The results are fantastic. I am still struck with my sole 18-70 mm standard lens. I have the feeling I should invest in a few more lenses to be more flexible. Alas those lenses are so expensive that I can't afford bad choices.
I guess you still have my email address.
it is so sad ... children are not deserved a life like this...
kudos, you really captured it well with your lens. great photos!
however, this is something I'd rather NOT see again. I've seen one i've seen all! Maybe some need to be reminded again but it's not like the Filipino people are not aware of the harsh reality.
I know. You know. They all know. It's no secret!
The question is, what are we going to do about it?
No offense kabayan but do we rally need to remind the whole world wat these kids are going through?Believe me, they know too!
You have great eyes and skills to capture more than this sad and painful subject.
How about something that will promote tourism? Like other pics you've posted here. They are beautiful!
Hi Mr. Pogi,
I disagree. As long as you have beggars, homeless people and street children, we photographers have the duty to show the world their plight.
Jeff is a very talented photographer and you only need to look at his archives to see how creative and diverse his photographic work is.
show the world their plight? and then what?
i only "wish" for a better subject. i never questioned his skills, only his subject. Like i said, how about something that will promote tourism. That at least will help the govt. then who knows, the govt might do something about those poor kids when they have enough resources.
i admire his works nonetheless!
Hi Mr. Pogi,
I guess you are not serious. Do you think foreigners don’t see what is happening in this country? Do you think you will attract USD /$$$$ by showing only pictures of beautiful beaches?
I don’t want to enter into a political discussion but with a bit less of corruption, here and there, some of those kids might be into school. It has nothing to do about tourism.
When you say about Jeff’s children pictures “I've seen one i've seen all!”. This sounds quite insensitive to me. If you look carefully into the eyes of those children you might not sleep tonight and you might try to do something about it. Yes, you Mr. Pogi , in your own little way you can make a difference. Like Jeff who is doing something about it by showing the plight of those children.
Secondly I think you have no clue of what photography is all about. It is all about emotions, my friend. About showing life AS IT IS!
Sorry Jeff. I don’t want to use your blog as a forum to my ideas about photography. Feel free to erase my comments.
IMAO u can seen those children not only in manila but anywhere in the good old phil busy streets...
sometimes we call them self supporting children since no one cares about them
anyways nice shot
grabe, the more i visit this site, the more im impressed.
fan mo talaga ako jeff.
kinilabutan ako, nung nakita ko ung mga pictures ng mga bata, parang pakiramdam ko, naamoy ko sila? pati ung sorroundings?! sobrang clear ng mga colors at dramatic ang place... don't get me wrong with that, but for me, that's how effective your shots are.
sobrang galeng!
im always impressed.
yeah, NO to child pornography.
pero baka kelangan mo ng adult porno model, magvovolunteer ako. free of charge?! haha kiddin aside.

sidney,
i'd rather not use those poor kids to attract dollars from foreigners...that is why i encourage instead tourism, good pictures for them to see the beauty of the Philippines.
corruption will never get fixed in the Philippines but tourism can be improved, for sure, with good promotion.
i'm proud to say i WAS one of those kids so I know what to do and what i can do for them...and know what i'm doing to help them....and I sleep well at night, no doubt!
what makes me up all night are people who uses people for their own agenda.
thanks for your thoughts...now i know you better!
btw, i love Jeff pictures...i always say his got good eye and skills...
