children of manila - part ii

instead of blogging the mission, just watch the video i uploaded on youtube.

now, to sid and mr. pogi, you are both correct. it's your opinion and both entitled to it.

let me point out something. i've been travelling a lot recently during my vacation and this one opened my eyes. mr pogi, if you've been visiting my blog you will see my 'tourist' travels of the north. yes, it's good that we should promote tourism but we should be aware that there are kids out there who are in need.

part photojournalism, part travel blog... and you can't force me to turn this down. why? it's the reality. i didn't say that you have to do something about it, im just want you to make a difference in some ways... let say disseminate the info, donate, whatever you feel.

we didn't have the pleasure of taking these pics because it's really heartbreaking. besides, it's not only the sadness of these children we took pictures of. if you seen the avp i uploaded, it brings different kinds of emotions. you can't just show the happy side. there are always two sides of the coin.

thank you for visiting.

Wise words Jeff. I was taken away and I should apologize to Mr. Pogi. I guess we all love the Philippines and we all hope for a brighter future for its children.

I looked at your YouTube clip and I was really moved. You did an intelligent, sensible and nice job. As a street photographer I know that it is not easy to capture children in such a candid, natural and relaxed way. I hope your pictures will get the exposure they deserve.

hi jeff. i watched the slideshow and couldn't help but feel obligated as a filipino to help out when i visit. now that i am living in a 1st world country, i am not used to seeing these scenes on the streets anymore.thanks for reminding me that people back home need my help.

I watched the uploaded video in youtube and it was definitely moving. It is sad that some children are in this plight. Their smiles are an inspiration to us all. Despite their current situation, they are generous in their smiles and their ways of having fun. Children are so precious and I should know coz I've seen many children during my hospital and community duties.

I love the images you posted. Although some may find it 'exploitative', I beg to disagree.

Picture of children, or any other person in need is an eye opener to each and everyone of us. Yes we can always opt to show the beautiful side of everything but we can not deny the reality that comes with it. There's always the good and the bad, the privileged and the unprivileged...

I am sure that photographers who choose to capture these scenes/ realities DO NOT enjoy /feast on the persons' misery or situation. I am sure that photographers who have done this in the past have one thing in mind - to show the world what is really happening.

Just my two cents... I'm sorry Jeff if this comment is too long. Keep up the good work.

One of the most "moving" still images I've seen. Kudos!
