louma and nora outtakes
behind the scenes from the past shoot with nora and louma. i was able to find time to post this during our conference and been busy since last week. i already moved a place to stay (post and pics soon), with that the internet connection is temporarily down due to transfer of connection.the scream - no way!

a smiling and happy-looking type, louma, was the easiest to work with. even i asked her to look poker-faced, she can't hold it and keep on laughing. and so i did a candid-type portraits for her.shards

f4.2, 1/200sec, 35mm, iso200
using a big window and a dirty and yellowish background in the dark, i asked her to pose for me to have contrast since her complexion is fair. the shards of glass were there that added touch to her expression, somewhat naughty within.

we found a good location for a model shoot last weekend. visiting the abandoned houses at al wasl, nora, a photographer-turned-model was my favorite of the day. if she didn't forget the batteries of her cam, i wouldn't have the chance to shoot her.candid

venturing the abandoned houses nearby, i saw the frontyard full of dried leaves. since the photographer-turned-model forgot her batteries of the camera, i asked her to lie down and arranged her into this position.

portraits - iii
last friday was my favorite outing with friends because it combines both of my forte, street photography and portraiture. enduring heat, the stench of fishs, gutted insides, and tiring walkathon, i disregard them all just to have a goodie shots. hope you like this as well.crab anyone?

japs and i got the new place few nights ago and paid the downpayment. last friday afternoon, we started fixing the place. we painted the whole room with white and later decided to put designs on each room. to our new roomies, they decided pink. marble-like design for japs and as for me, just pure white since i'm going to use it for photography.after years of living in a shared room, im going to have privacy of my own. :)

we were able to finish the paintjob and hopefully we will install the flooring and start moving our things in a couple of days. painting the house is not an easy task. it took us 2 days to get it done and i got fever from it. :P
addendum: happy mother's day to all!

finally, individuals from different camera clubs and communities met in a large scale. around 26 filipino photo enthusiasts attended the much awaited street photography meetup in dubai. though the walk was unforgiving (plus closed restos), i would like to thank everyone who came and who helped to organize this gig.you know who you are. shokran!
sorry no jumps for today due to humid weather conditions.

dpp/tl - street photography eb
beat the heat and it's time to meet and hit the streets!explore and capture the rocky shores of deira corniche, noisy vendors, stinky fishes and semifresh veggies of deira fish market, the glittering window shops of gold, old spices and other market trades of naif, and the wooden ships and busy cargos along the dubai creek.
a lot of my photo colleagues and friends are hesitant to meet with each other once again and decided to put this eb before the real summer heat starts. share tips and trade secrets in photography with fellow enthusiasts and newbies are the objectives of this trek.

updates (05-10-07):
so far 24 have confirmed for the eb and this is already big that we have to secure a permit from the police and philippine consulate as a safety. one of our friends from the dubai government inquired and we're cleared for the shoot. however here are some guidelines coming from the dxb police/cid:
1. Photographing in restricted areas such as government departments, ministries, royal palaces, military outposts and oil refineries is prohibited.
2. Photographing any scenes that disrespect or harm social and cultural perspectives and values of society is prohibited.
3. Photographing any scenes that reflect unethically or negatively upon any economical, political or ideological issues is prohibited.
plus, we might get covered from the press. :P stay tuned.

go kart go!
yesterday, i finally able to meet up with my friend, mitch, who was visiting here in the sandlands. she was assigned by her company for three months and i was invited if i wanted to go karting. though i felt bored, i tagged along.the karting track is located at the dubai autodrome, a 25-minute car ride from the city proper. i didn't join with the racers since i would like to practice panning shots.
"in photography, panning technique is used to suggest fast motion, and bring out foreground from background. in photographic pictures it is usually noted by a foreground subject in action appearing still (i.e. a runner frozen in mid-stride) while the background is streaked and/or skewed in the apparently opposite direction of the subject's travel." - wikipedia
ready and all psyched up

ready and asleep

yellow flag is up

the racers

though the timing of the day was unfavorable (3-5pm), i did manage to get good ones by overexposing it. though some of my panning shots were so-so, it was fun practicing and be back to autodrome next time (and driving a kart as well..hehe).

window blinds reduces the amount of sunlight and an alternative as a softbox. doing portraits on daylight (or artificial lighting) with blinders can have a background effect such as this one.
no further pp enhancements done except resizing it to frame and sig.
