2007 year-end report
another year has come to an end and it was a renaissance for me with a lot of first-time experiences this 2007. let's take a recap:manila. i extended my stay there and made arrangements after the marriage breakdown. still undecided, i went for a photo spree to the places i've never seen such as corregidor island and wawa, montalban. i had an opportunity to do a little charity work at sampaloc street kids eb, covering my "children of manila" series, and portrait/studio sessions. after a month, i decided to go back to dubai and settled.
career. though after years of living in an unconditional state, i finally became a resident of uae. it has kept secret for years and there's no reason to hide it anymore. current work is still stable at the moment.
photography. it was a major breakthrough having opportunities to meet new faces and the network was extended rapidly. the passion became addiction that even the one of the most expensive hobbies were fuelled with provisions. this year, i acquired one of my dream lenses, the longnose and other photographic-related equipment such as manny, vertex 200aw bag, accessories and filters.
timelapse and jumping shots became my trademark.
mideast snipers. it was a simple, usual weekend photo treks. then it grew and became a grand eyeball. during these events, it always have sniper shots (taking a photo of a photographer in action). as a co-organizer and founder, we decided to formalize the group. coming from different affiliations and professions. mideast snipers was born.
friends. you win some, you lose some... but i gained more this year. it revealed some of their true colors and changed my perception of "friends"
new discoveries. i've been in the country for quite a long time now and still there were places that i haven't visited. after knowing benet and her friends for the first time, they took me to places i haven't been to such as the inside of emirates towers, dibba, madinat jumeirah and bab al shams.
i also visited the hatta reservoir, uptown mirdif, marina mall in abu dhabi, dubai autodrome, festival city waterfront, and global village (after four years!)
major events such as the dibs, dubai motorshow, dubai airshow, dubai bride show, redbull flugtag and gitex 2007 were attended once again.
personal. i must say it has been a happy year for me in all aspects. i got myself a room after being evicted from our flat. i was able to upload two personal sites such as bloodwork, rebirth and galleries in multiply. i had two haircuts this year (instead of one last year hehehe). and finally, i found someone. :)
happy new year everyone!

the true meaning of christmas
a cross-post from eric fajut. please disseminate the info. thanks.
image supplied
His name is Raem Macrohon. He is 2 1/2 yrs old. At his young age, Rem is already battling lymphoma. He has a cell tumor near his heart. Because of this, it is preventing the blood circulation to work properly. The only way to take out the tumor is through chemotheraphy. He has already undergone 5 chemotherapies. He need to undergo 7 more within 4 months including numerous laboratory tests and check-ups.
Last Christmas eve, the Mideast Snipers visited Raem and his father at the Dubai Hospital. He was preparing for another test and operation. Through the donations gathered from last MES Christmas EB, we were able to extend a little help to this poor angel. All of us were trying to hold on to our tears as we listen to his father's heartbreaking story about their battle against the disease.
We would like to thank everybody who contributed on this humble charity work of ours. This is the true meaning of Photography and Christmas, to capture God's beautiful creations & blessings and to share it to others.
For anyone interested to help this little angel, you can contact his father, Randy Macrohon (+971 050-5654715).
Merry Christmas to all and may God return your generosity a hundred fold.

global village
just another impromptu get-together and bonding with my friends from barsha. knowing that the global village is finally open, we instantly invaded the place.according to their website:
As a world-class tourism destination, the global village brings together diverse customs and cultures covering a broad spectrum of activities including music, dances, arts and handicrafts, theatre, costumes and cuisine of different countries.
as expected, some of the pavillions were not yet open and there's still a lot of construction going on same like the city of dubai itself. the place are full of police security and we were questioned three times on what we're doing. we gave them the same answers...
...to shoot and have fun.

portraits - viii
benet, the birthday girl went for an outdoor portraiture session. these were taken during mideast snipers picnic eb at the dubai creek park.i used two lenses here, the 10-20mm uwa (ultra-wide angle) lens for candid/humorous shots and the nikkor 70-200mm 2.8 vr for action and long-range headshots.

such a sweetheart.
i didn't have any trouble taking pics of her since after many sessions, she already knew what i wanted. good rapport to your models and appreciating one's beauty made it possible.

the setup
hungry walruses @ sumo
the wacky couple, eric and mhin, asked me if there were any plans on the eve of benet's birthday. i told them that we don't have plans for her and the couple brewed an idea that we take her to a japanese resto for dinner.
and so i devised a sting operation.
i asked benet a favor to accompany me on a "client meeting" since we're going to meet on the same date. she inquired on the location and how i got the info. i told her that it's going to be the same place as the jammin' session few nights back and "the client" saw us taking some snaps that got interested and stumbled into this blog via google. that's the only viable reason since the japanese resto and the cafe are located in the same place.
she was convinced and took the bait.
after office, she picked me up and went to my place to grab some stuff for "the meeting." i called up eric/mhin to see where they were and told that they're struck in traffic. so i decided to delay my moves by slowing down. benet was ready to blow her fuse at that moment due to traffic and got tired from work. luckily, the couple got there on time...
...and she got surprised.
blowing of the candle

more of her portraits during the picnic eb.
addendum:
treklens philippines interviewed and featured me this december as their "trekker of the month." following the ranks of manny librodo, alec tempongko, and jing magsaysay, it's such a great honor from you guys.
mabuhay!
