abras used to be the primary means of transportation between the two sides of the creek before cars could cross it via the several bridges or the al shindagha tunnel. today, it is mostly used by tourists, common folk and nostalgics. while this guy was having a break, there were more than 140 abras operating along the creek.
just as our mini-ship were waiting to be full, another vessel sailed. a part of the traditional creekscape of dubai, these wooden boats transport people for many years. it can ferry 20 passengers per one-way trip and costs only a dirham (usd 0.27).

below, a dubai municipality official was inspecting the flow of traffic along the creek. if you prefer an exclusive tour along the creek, it costs aed100 (usd28).
