it has always been busy for this time of the year. closing deals and accounts, annual reports, final pitches and other work-related stuff must be done before the new year unfolds. most of the people have gone for the holidays and parties. the “unlucky” ones usually have to take the burden to keep the ball rolling. over-ty (thank you) and last minute deadlines were part of the game.
i wish i could relax after a day’s work… probably a bottle of beer or a shot of jack in a bar and unwind with friends.
this was taken during our site visit at the meydan with my colleagues. i wasn’t really paying attention to our tour guide at that time and just keep taking photos. i never knew the name of this bar until i uploaded it and found the information. the location was dark and i don’t have a tripod when it was taken. i bumped the iso to 800 (noise was evident in the shot) and leaned against the wall hoping to get a less blurry image.

it was quite unusual to see a heavy equipment parked in the middle of the desert. this crawler was probably waiting for a parcel of land to be moved and built for a new man-made structure. dubai at that time was expanding. construction sites are everywhere and this lonely dunes of bawadi was not an exception.

yet another sunset shot of 2007 while we visited the open beach near burj al arab. i’m not even halfway through my total image bank and there are three more years to sort! anyway, this shot reminded me of a scene from the movie “city of angels” where angels meet on the shore to listen the celestial music and commune.
before i was using rawshooter to process my files. i tried lightroom this time to re-post process using various curves, contrast, added graduated filters (i don’t own gnds that time), and converted it to black and white.

during my local leave, i was wondering on how to maximise my digitized image space in my hard drives. i deleted unwanted clutter and archiving not-so-important files just to free those precious bytes. while browsing my november 2007 folders, i stumbled upon this long forgotten gem.
this was taken at jumeirah bab al shams, a luxury hotel in the middle of the desert. as far as i can remember, we were rushing to a clear vantage point of a sunset. as we were running and stopped by security, it was already late and the sun disappeared on the horizon. well, it’s was not really over and kept shooting until the skies went really dark. my camera that time (d70s) has a very good saturation and it captured interesting colors. the crowd on foreground was added as bonus to the composition.

last year, we finally visited our dream destination and enjoyed it for a week. located south of india, maldives consists of coral islands or atolls, making it the most dispersed country in the world in geographic terms. the islets are scattered around the ocean and boats are the only means of transportation. as we landed to the airport, we were greeted by the hotel staff and took us to our speedboat for an hour ride to our resort. we saw this small ship that ran aground as we were heading out to open waters.
i have been longing for a good holiday. a week of vacation was not enough for me. for two years, i have been working straight without going somewhere. if i did not take it, i might end up like this ship…
