gimme fuel, gimme fire

yet another item to cross off my bucket list.

one of my favorite rock bands, metallica performed at yas arena, abu dhabi. it was a rare opportunity to see them. we endured the queue, traffic, hunger and pain standing just to see, hear and headbanging with them. quite a performance as the crowd went wild!

i was given a chance to test-drive a new camera system brand. available in the market, sony middle east provided me a professional-level camera called sony alpha 55. in this image, i was able to use the fully articulated lcd screen by raising the camera overhead the raising arms with \m/ gesture. it’s easier to compose the shot by flipping the lcd to a suitable angle.  also, im satisfied on how the image appeared on unpredictable lighting conditions such as the bursting flames.

i am looking for a suitable photo for our new set of photo frames. while digging in the archives, i came across this shot when i was scouting a location in discovery gardens on broad daylight. there is nothing much to say about this photo but somehow i like how the light and shadows played. i retouched the photo a little bit by bumping the saturation and contrast.

grandma manga

the monsoon gave us unpredictable weather. it was drizzling when we arrived to the top station of tamil nadu and made an audacious move towards the viewing deck. along the way, we saw the path clear of peddlers and there were few visitors. then, in a matter of minutes the rain stopped. it gave us a window to wander and appreciate the tamil nadu’s landscape from a high ground. after a handful of shots, we decided to go back. as we followed the damp trail to our car, we spotted an old lady sitting by the grass. amidst the rain, she was punctual and tried to sell her goods… the mangoes. unbeknown to me, the word mango originated from the tamil word mangai/mankay via portugese (manga) hence the appropriate title. :D

the box

nikon d300, 10mm, f11, 0.6sec, iso100, tripod mounted, intervalometer setting (total of 8635 frames)

balikbayan box is a corrugated box containing any number of small items from food, clothing, toiletries, toys or whatever it fits in. it is sent by expat filipinos to their homeland as pasalubong (presents) to their family usually before christmas. this documentary took us three days to cover from wrapping the boxes with countless packaging tapes, filling up with items and to pick-up of the freight forwarders from our place.

it was my first-hand experience using adobe after affects in creating time-lapse movies. it took me a while tweaking keyframes and countless hours watching tutorials on how to import, combine, add effects and other things needed to make a clip. i’m no video pro, but i enjoyed playing every keyframe of it.

zebu huddle

towards the end of our journey to kerala, we came across a cattle market enroute from thekkady to kumarakom. the transactions beside the road caused a minor traffic. while waiting for our car to move, i got a chance to get out and wander a few meters around.  as i walked back through the murky road, i saw a truckload full of cattle bundled together with ropes around their noses. looking at the predicament they were in, one managed to tease in front of the lens by sticking out its tongue.
